When do children start school?

All children whose fifth birthday falls within the next school year (1st September – 31st August) will be admitted in the September of the year that they are five.

Essex County Council admissions will be in touch with you explaining how you apply for your child’s first school place. Further information can be found here.

In order to ease the transition between home and/or nursery and playgroup and school, we invite children who are starting school the following term to visit us in the preceding term. The children have an opportunity to meet staff and they become familiar with the school routines and with what will be expected of them when they begin school. This reduces anxiety levels about a new experience and in many cases leads to eagerness to begin school immediately!

Mid-Year Applications

All mid-year applications should be made directly to the school, using the Mid-Year Primary Application Form or contact the school office by email or call 01371 870219.

Mid-year applications (sometimes called in-year applications) are any application for a school place made to a year group apart from September admissions to Reception.

For applications into existing year groups a place will be offered when the number of pupils in the relevant year group is below the admission number for that year group.

Please note, if a mid-year application is received during a school holiday period, we will respond within 10 working days for the school reopening.
