On Saturday 12th July, the school field opened itself again to a wonderful evening of laughter, music, rounders, BBQs, fish and chips, a bonfire and all other things associated with camping.  This year there was also a visit from a little thunder, lightning and rain- however, spirits remained high and new friendships were formed as people squeezed into the driest shelter available!

The children had a wonderful time biking down the hill, pond dipping, scaring each other in the den area and toasting marshmallows on the bonfire.  We also played a giant game of rounders (children versus adults) and of course the adults won by at least twenty rounders!!

The rain interrupted the film time a little and so the children set up in the hall.  After the rain spell, the outside screen was used to watch the football.  The evening continued with lots of stories around the fire and singing a variety of well-known songs (even if the lyric knowledge was a little shaky)!  Eventually, the children ran out of energy and the grown-ups were dragged to bed.  A heavy rain spell at about 4am forced some people to swim home earlier than planned, but at first light, the survivors bounced out of their tents and enjoyed some left-over food and drink and a game of cricket!!

Awards for the evening were:

Most ridiculously large tent- The Jackmans

Chef of the Year- Mr Rayner

Best rain shelter of the night- the Morfords

Most entertaining singing- Mrs Hart

Silliest place to leave a camera- Mrs Hart

Best ukulele playing of ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’- Mr Harris

Leakiest tent- Miss Govey

Best marshmallow concealer- Mr Hastings

Overall, it was another great fundraising event from the PTFA.  Special thanks to Mr Orrow for setting up the outside lighting and the outside cinema screen and also to everyone who came along and supported the event.
